What the Momik Revit plugin does
Momik runs inside Revit as a plugin. It reads the model you already have — rooms, zones, geometry — hands that to the calculation, and writes the outcome back. No export step, no second application to rebuild the room in.
The calculation does not run on your workstation. The plugin sends the zones to Momik's engine in the cloud, so nothing on your machine has to keep up.
What comes back is not a picture of a design. The luminaires Momik selects are placed into the model as Revit families, not as a list to re-enter — the fixture in your ceiling is the one the numbers were made with.
Every zone is read against EN 12464-1: maintained illuminance, uniformity (Uo) and UGR, each checked against that room type's values and reported zone by zone. EN 12464-1 explained covers the three quantities.
How the two-way sync works, step by step
Four moves, in the order the plugin takes them.
1. Read the model
You launch Momik Lighting from the Revit ribbon and set the project up once. The plugin then lists the rooms per level with the parameters it found there, so you pick your zones out of what is already drawn.
2. Assign the lighting function
Select a room from your model and assign its lighting function. That one assignment pulls in the requirements: an office, a corridor and a meeting room are not held to the same illuminance, uniformity or glare limit. It is what the compliance check reads afterwards.
3. Calculate in the cloud
Pick a luminaire from the catalog, or let Momik auto-select the best fit, then auto-place and calculate. In the homepage walkthrough that comes back as 525 lx with 18 fixtures and an EN 12464-1 pass.
4. Place the result back
Add the fixtures to your model and the chosen luminaires are written back as Revit families, photometry linked, in the positions the calculation produced. The same run yields a standards-compliant calculation note.
What comes back into your model
Out of Revit go rooms, zones and geometry. Back into Revit come three things:
- Families — the luminaires Momik selected, placed into the model as Revit families.
- Photometry — the real IES or LDT file each one was calculated from, linked to its family.
- Results per zone — maintained illuminance, uniformity (Uo) and UGR against the EN 12464-1 values for that room type, plus a standards-compliant calculation note.
For a BIM manager the value is what that does to the number of sources of truth. The homepage puts it in one line: one calculation engine, one catalog. The colleague in the browser and the colleague in Revit pick from the same catalog and calculate on the same engine.
Plugin or browser: which to use when
Momik is one product with two front doors.
In the browser: nothing to install. Draw or upload your zones, calculate, receive your report — on any device, on macOS, Windows or Linux. That is the route for engineering firms and installers without BIM.
As a Revit plugin: your model supplies the zones, and the chosen luminaires go back into the model as families. That is the route for teams whose geometry already exists in Revit, where redrawing those rooms elsewhere is doing the work twice.
Both are available today, and the choice costs nothing on the study itself: one engine, one catalog, the same EN 12464-1 result either way. If the model exists, use the plugin; if it does not, the browser is quicker. For the Mac side of that question, see the DIALux alternative page.
How it compares with other Revit lighting plugins
Two other ways to run a lighting analysis in Revit — or to get one out of it. Properties, not verdicts, each quoted from the vendor's own page. Relux also ships a Revit add-in, ReluxCAD; its current details could not be verified — relux.com blocked every request on 17 September 2026 — so it is not in the table.
One correction first, because it is where an old comparison goes wrong fastest: DIALux does have a Revit route. The difference is the order of the work. Its Bridge routes your model out to DIALux evo and the finished lighting model back into Revit; the Momik plugin never asks you to leave the model.

The plugin is available now, alongside the web version.
It runs wherever Revit runs, which is Windows. That is the one platform limit: the web version works in the browser on macOS, Windows and Linux, and the plugin follows Revit. For a Mac team that is the deciding fact — the DIALux alternative page sets out what the browser route covers.
